If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything, it is open to everything. In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind there are few.
― Shunryu Suzuki
When we have a beginners mind we are open, we have a willingness to engage without expectation. We want to learn and we want to try it out. This very approach, of holding a beginners mind is what enables us to experience the true benefits of Meditation.
Today in Meditation I realised that I wasn't able to move into a deeper state becasue I was expecting the experiences I had the day before.
After becoming aware of this I chose to bring my awareness back to the present moment. I let go of the expectation. By doing this I was able to bring all my attention to one point, which is the point of Meditation. And when I did this I found that I began to experience and elevated state. I began to naturally go deeper into Meditation.
Approach your Meditation with a beginners mind.
So the point of this is that we need to let go of expectation of the what we want to get out of Meditation. When we let go of the need for our thoughts to stop or the need to relax. This letting go allows us to to be in the present moment . And this is where a greater experience resides.
Here is short video by the company Headspace which explains the benefits of a beginners mind when it comes to Meditation.
